Buttons for Sale

Dear D*Lsh Readers,

We're back at the Anaheim Convention Center this Labor Day weekend (Friday - Sunday), but this time it's for the SCRC Catholic Renewal Convention. Besides the Little Guide to Confession booklets we passed out last time, we are also releasing our 5 first ever designs for buttons featuring a bold Sacred Heart of Jesus, a gentle face of Jesus, graphic One Bread = One Body, the beautiful Our Lady of Lourdes on stained glass and an intricate Ave Maria logo. So now you can wear your faith on your shirt, backpack or anywhere you can pin a button and be proud of it! These 1.25" buttons are selling at an affordable $1.50 1.25 each or 5 for $5. Make Something

If you have a mind that is always running for ideas and hands that itch to make something, you're in luck. HP came out with a campaign called "What Do You Have to Say?" and it has an interactive site that shows you easy how-tos from creating professionally designed business materials to making your own paper doll entourage. My fave is the Gwen Stefani section. Her style is just so... Gwen. Thanks for the link, Sandy!

Also check out her Sweet Escape Tour Book. It's filled with pages after pages of bold, vivid graphics that are just oozing with her style. You can add your own pics to it or just buy it as is. Enjoy!

Meet Ms. Servietta!

At the end of September we are designing a bridal shower for a very good family friend. The concept - spontaneous, energetic mad hatter meets the over the top, all pink, smart, feminine, and chic tea party! Flowers spilling out of tea pots. Using huge and tiny teacups for contrast.  A luxurious, comfy, red velvet chair with gold trim for the bride-to-be.   And of course, a lopsided, almost exploded cake! We're excited and we are constantly on the hunt for something unusual to have for the bridal shower. And look what I found today - Ms. Servietta!

"Servietta is a napkin holder made in Switzerland some time in the 1950s" sfgirlbybay posted this on her blog and she is definitely right, this is  the coolest napkin holder I've ever seen.  Even though she was found at a thrift store in Norway,  it's not holding us back from having her make an appearance at our tea party.  I think we D*Lsh girls can create something very simliar.  I feel a really great project coming on.   

Don't Mess with Texans!

Howdy all! I just came back from a week-long road trip to Arizona and Texas to visit my fiance's family. Been a while since I went traveling, so it was nice to experience the Southwest. But the best thing about going on a road trip is the things you get to see! Texas is all about the red white and blues, stars, cowboys, 72 oz. steaks, bigger everything, bullhorn on limo, rolling hay and saloon.

We also found the second largest cross in the western hemisphere! (Where the largest one is, I don't know) But the cool part about finding that is finding this!

The cross is located in a city called Groom in Texas. So of course I had to take this picture for our wedding slideshow. For those getting married out there, this might be a cool photo op spot for your grooms too. Just thought I'd share with y'all ; )

 

True Love

I just read the most amazing story about a couple who escaped Hurricane Dean, in Mexico. Not only did they have to deal with the horrible hurricane, but it was also their wedding day!!!! The Mexican goverment ordered the bride, groom, family and guests to immediately evacuate the island they were staying on.  35 guests and no idea where to go. There was no tear in sight for the bride only smiles. The groom made sure everyone was calm.  They escaped safely to an old town, on the mainland, 3 hours away from the storm. To finish off this memorable day, they continue to celebrate their wedding - ceremony and all!  One of my favorite wedding photographer, Matt Adcock, captured this inspiring wedding. ohh la la

I just saw the most adorable ring made from Dior. Not only is it romantic because it's in french, but it also says "oui". What a perfect engagement ring or wedding band! This gets me weak in the knee.  Hug someone today and say "oui" to love!

I'm in love, loving Lena Corwin's new set of travel plates. She knows how to make a travel girl like myself so happy!

And I'm just swooning over David Stark's bouquet. Yellow is my favorite color. Seeing it so close up like this makes me want to kiss it.

Tord Boontje

It's been awhile since I've explored  Studio Tord Boontje's website and I'm still in awe. Although his website hasn't been updated, it's still inspiring, fresh, timeless and innovative.  I would love to design an event that's inspired by his work.  The details are so breathtaking.

Here he is playing with shadows. Just think of the potential of something so simple - especially for a wedding. And a tier wedding cake with the table cloth like that!  I would be so happy if a client would be oh so adventurous to try this out.

Just looking at this takes me away to another world.  Studio Tord had an installation of an "entire wardrobe of dress covers, each telling a different story, inviting you to sit and dream." 

I don't need to explain this.  Just imagine what an invitation would look like if Tord was the inspiration! I think we might have to take on that challenge.

Lately, we've been feeling truly blessed with all the good things pouring down. It's like God's shower of love. And we're feeling oh-so-fuzzy-and-warm inside that it almost brings us to tears sometimes. Saying yes to be at the National Family Conference last weekend has been a big blessing in itself. We met so many wonderful people and received many compliments on our work. It was such an important event for the growth of D'Lsh Design. Thanks to all the supportive ladies from our Incubators that gave us the courage to just go out there and be. And our Little Guide to Confession was also received well by many of all ages. It was great. It was definitely motivating us to grow more and to put more wonderful work out there. So stay tuned!
