D*LSH has been planning a special event for someone dear to our... well actually to me, to my heart... my best friend, partner in crime, the other half of D*LSH ..Henny.. is getting married soon! 4 months and 3 days to be exact! Wow time has been flying and we're riding it with so much excitement. We've been planning her big day. Ideas running high and giggles galore. Funny thing is that we haven't even spoke about it here. I think she's a little shy, so I'll do it for her. She doesn't even know I'm doing this. Someone's got to share all the goodies we've been brewing up for her and her fiance's big day, and since I'm the maid of honor - I think I should. So here I go.
Inspiration
Every time we meet our couples for the first time, we ask them to tell us stories. Stories of where they met. Their background. Funny stories about each other. How did he or now-a-days she pop the question. What do they love doing together. Their story is our inspiration for the invites, flowers, fabrics, lighting, food.... everything. Their wedding day is the celebration of their love and we want to spread that love to every guest that joins them that day. After listening to their stories, we go back to our studio to create their inspiration board for them. The board sets the tone, style and most importantly tells their story for this special day. One of our favorite ways to start the creative process.
Here is Henny's and her fiancé, Patrick's, inspiration board.
Henny and Patrick are both from different cultures. Henny is Indonesian / Chinese and Patrick has a little bit of Australian, Spanish, and some Texan blood in him. And the first color we thought of when creating their board was red! Red is the obvious color for both, but it also fits them perfectly because it expresses their bold love for each other and their passion for life.
Since the wedding is going to be during the day and in summer, we wanted to add little calmness to the red and to make it a little more modern, we chose a cool gray. The cool gray is a great accent to the red. It adds a sense of elegance and sophistication to the palette. And being a bridesmaid, the cool gray is going to help us cool keep during the summer heat in California. Thank you for thinking of us!
They are inspired by the movie "In the Mood for Love". An era, where the ladies wear traditional qi pao dresses and the guys look sharp in suits.
I'm sure this is not a surprise, Henny has a love for anything crafty and handmade. In the board you can see papercuts, another common element from her Chinese and his Spanish side. The details and the handmade feel adds a sense of warmth, familiarity, and home-sweet-home-ness. Home is were the heart is, and that is where their love and their love for others resides. Mi casa su casa. Here is a sneak peak of their Save The Dates. All printed with 100% recycled paper, and soy ink of course.
There is more to come and more stories to tell. Come back and check often to see what D*LSH has in store for their invites and flowers.
