2 things that stole my heart this Monday!
For my nephew's next birthday I'm going to get him these Celebration Candle Kids from The Small Object. I can't stop smiling when I look at them. I should have got them for my birthday. It's not too late, right?!
Adie loves Polly and we love Adie! A brilliant photographer at 4 years old. Go to her photoblog and give her and Polly some love too.
Meeting Crissy again tonight reminded me of our fun photoshoot day a couple weeks ago and that I promised you a blog about our little makeover. So here are some snapshots of D*LSH going glam. It was definitely one of our favorite parts of doing a photoshoot. MAKEOVER!
HAIR @ SARA'S BEAUTY SALON
This is where we had our hair done. My dear friend Cathy is the hair extraordinaire at this salon. The place may be a little shabby, but the work was wonderful! Highly recommended.
This is what we showed them for our hair inspiration. The left one was Lucy's. Beautiful tight curls. The right bunch was mine. More of a Hollywood glam big waves.

I'm 29 today and I'm feeling quite giddy. Woohoo! I was planning to have a big birthday bash, but I had a little minor surgery/procedure last Friday that's delayed the celebrations. No worries, I'm feeling better and I have the whole year to celebrate! Today, I think I'm going to try to take it easy. This weekend was just about resting. But when my 2 and 4 year-old nephews came to visit me this weekend and showered me with a big fat birthday kiss, there was no more resting for me. Sneak in a home cooked meal and a water balloon fight, and I was healed. Happy Birthday to Me and Happy Unbirthday to You too!!! Anyone remember that song?! Well, may all of your "Unbirthday "wishes come true for you today too! You should take it easy too. It's ok to spoil yourself today and every day. You deserve it. *hug*

With my wedding coming up (in about 2 months!), I really had to focus some energy into making it happen. And the mission at hand was our invitation. They say it's harder to design for yourself than for other people. It's so true! With all the different techniques and ways to make something really cool, you tend to get lost in the creativity jungle and your project becomes a big mumbo jumbo with no direction. Earlier on, I had a hard time trying to decide the look of my invite. After all, it's DA INVITE! The pressure was on. But when I started doodling, turtles keep coming up for some reason. Because Patrick and I have raised 3 turtles since we were dating, it would make sense to include them in our wedding theme. So they ended up playing quite a big role in our invitation set. I had fun illustrating them. And thanks to Lucy's help with the beautiful type work, our invitation was born!
Tonight, with Lucy busy taking care of our other D*Lsh projects, I recruited my fiance/hubby to help me put together our invitations. At first, I was a little unsure of his cutting skills, but I must say, I was quite impressed by the end of the night. He was doing most of the cutting (he was a cutting machine!), while I took care of setting up the files for print, designing the mailing label, gluing the invite to the outer jacket, sticking the stamps on the RSVP postcards, and stuffing. It worked out quite well. Here's a sneak peek.
There's more work to be done. Tomorrow, figuring out the RSVP, making stickers for the outer jacket, printing mailing labels, gluing more invites, and stuffing! I think we can send them off this week. Yay!
Seeing Lucy's previous post of the cool chalkboard placemats bring memories from a couple years back. Ever since my first OC Fair experience, I've always been a fan and I try to go at least once every year when it's in town. But when I learned about the different competitions, I was so eager to be a part of it. Especially when I saw that they had one on Tablesetting! Now, this was pre-D*Lsh days, but Lucy and I have always loved doing event decor and tablescapes, so we got ourselves in there and signed up! Being the crazy duo we are, of course, we didn't want to do a normal-looking tablesetting. NoooOOOo... we had to change things up (mind you, most of the participants in this competition are probably in the older age bracket). So we chose to do a birthday tablesetting for a little farmer boy named Nolan (that's our inspiration and Nolan is Lucy's nephew). So we made the table into grass hills and have plastic farm animals grazing the hills. We even made tiny party hats for the animals and buried plastic carrots into the grass! For tableskirt, we used good ol' burlap. It was so much fun! We wrote the names of the kids on tiny chalkboards and wrote the menu on a chicken chalkboard (that I still have!). We just wanted to have fun with it and didn't really know what the judges would think. But guess what? We got a ribbon for our tablesetting! I forgot if it was Third Place or some Honorable Mention, but it made it all worth doing something different.

So there you have it. A pre-D*Lsh day masterpiece.
Here are some more chalkboard fun that I couldn't resist posting up. Who would of thought chalkboard can be so chic. It's easy, fun, personable (use it to assign seating), and it doubles as a gameboard. A great idea from Real Simple. Should things get out of hand, wipe the mess away with felt erasers, set like coasters under the chalk cups. Who wants to play some mean tic-tac-toe and hangman?
These are available at The Readers Catalog But if you are crafty, this is an easy great d.i.y. project. Get an old picture placemat, or a thin wooden board and paint it with blackboard paint. Ta-da you got your own placemat! Don't forget the chalk, that's the best part.
I thought this was really cool. Meticulously crafted in workshops for the physically challenged in Germany, this design doubles as reusable place cards and napkin rings. Simply write the names of your guests directly onto the napkin rings with the slate pencil and remove with the sponge eraser.

The Conde Nast Art Store is filled with so much great cover arts and photographs. There is so many that I want to buy. I think it's time for me to switch up the art on the walls of my studio. 
J.crew and their new line of yummy accessories and shoes. You just can't help but covet and collect.
I love Drew Barrymore and when I saw her on the cover of the new issue of my favorite magazine Domino I just had to get it! They featured her gorgeous office designed by Ruthie Sommers. It's so incredibly chic, full of hidden jewels, fun, alive, and down to earth... so very Drew!
Martha Stewart did it again, as always, with her new issue. I just love this shared office space. I'm really envying and eyeing that metal roller cart. Martha you make me sick! In a good way of course. A mental note to have for my studio. 
Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of having the super-talented Crissy of Christine Farah Photography shoot for us (with the assistance of her very own hubby), since we're in need of really fun and fresh photos for our website. And she did just that and more! She captured the essence of D*Lsh so well that we're totally in love with her photos! We can't wait to use these on our site! Thank you for such a fun day, Crissy! We LOVE you!!
